Chipdesign sleutelpositie in de Nederlandse en Europese semiconductorindustrie

Nederland heeft binnen de semiconductor equipmentindustrie een wereldwijde toppositie verworven. De tweede toppositie binnen deze waardeketen is de chipdesignindustrie. Beide posities zijn van grote toegevoegde waarde om de strategische autonomie van Europa te vergroten en 20% marktwaarde te generen. Daarvoor is echter wel versterking nodig rondom chipdesign. Het opleiden van talent met de juiste skills om de nieuwe generatie chips te kunnen ontwerpen is van groot belang.
Om invulling te geven aan deze ambitie en bij te dragen aan het Nederlandse en Europese innovatiebeleid, heeft een breed nationaal consortium de afgelopen maanden de handen ineengeslagen om een ambitiedocument in de vorm van een actieagenda te formuleren. Deze actieagenda is op 23 maart jongstleden overhandigd aan het Ministerie van EZK (Maud van Haeren), die het enorme belang van dit soort initiatieven benadrukte.
“Samen maken we chipdesign een topprioriteit van het Nederlandse innovatiebeleid en helpen we Europa bij de realisatie van een volledig ecosysteem. Let’s make it happen!”
Deze actieagenda ‘Chip Design NL, het nationale cluster’ is opgesteld door ChipTech Twente, High Tech NL cluster Semiconductors (Holland Semiconductors), Brainport Eindhoven, University of Twente, Eindhoven University of Technology, Twente Board, Oost NL en TU Delft.
De komende maanden gaat het consortium, samen met de industrie, verder invulling geven aan deze agenda, om tot concrete doelen en uitwerking van de actielijnen te komen.

Action agenda: Chip design key position in Dutch and European semiconductor industry
The Netherlands has achieved a global top position within the semiconductor equipment industry. The second top position within this value chain is the chip design industry. Both positions are of great added value to increase Europe’s strategic autonomy and generate 20% market value. However, this requires strengthening around chip design. Training talent with the right skills to design the next generation of chips is of great importance.
To realise this ambition and contribute to Dutch and European innovation policy, a broad national consortium has joined forces in recent months to formulate an ambition document in the form of an action agenda. This action agenda was handed over to the Ministry of EZK (Maud van Haeren) on 23 March in Enschede, who stressed the huge importance of this kind of initiative.
This action agenda ‘Chip Design NL, the national cluster’ was drawn up by ChipTech Twente, High Tech NL cluster Semiconductors (Holland Semiconductors), Brainport Eindhoven, University of Twente, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Twente Board, Oost NL and TU Delft.
In the next few months, the consortium, together with the industry, will further shape this agenda to achieve concrete goals and elaborate on the action lines.
