As part of the OP Zuid Projects “Holland Robotics Logistics” and “Holland Robotics Inspection & Maintenance,” we cordially invite you to the online portion of the upcoming partner meeting on September 14.

During this online session, you’ll learn about Space 53, among other things. Space 53 is the premier location for the safe development, testing, and training of unmanned vehicles on land, in water, or in the air.

In addition, Jeroen van de Kerkhof of PostNL and Tjeerd Broersma of Enexis will each present a use case for which automation is a potential solution. Several of the project participants will also give a brief pitch on their projects.

Program

  • 1:30 – 1:35 p.m. | Welcome by Holland Robotics | Thijs Dorssers
  • 1:35 – 2:00 p.m. | Virtual tour and introduction to Space 53 | Marc Sandelowsky
  • 2:00 – 2:15 p.m. | Jeroen van de Kerkhof | PostNL | see below for details
  • 2:15 – 2:30 p.m. | Tjeerd Broersma | Enexis | see below for details
  • 2:30–2:40 p.m. | Pitch: Jorrit Kuipers / Andrea Poelstra | Autonomous mobility and certification
  • 2:40–2:50 p.m. | Pitch: Henk Kiela | Probotics | Mobile collaboration between a mobile robot and a robotic arm

PostNL Use Case
PostNL has a use case in which they want to automate the process of loading packages onto the sorting conveyor belt. Currently, employees remove packages from roll containers and place them on an induction conveyor belt so they can be transported to our sorter. Instead of this manual process, PostNL wants to implement automation.

Enexis Use Case

Enexis is the network operator for all medium- and low-voltage underground cables in Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, North Brabant, and Limburg. In our work as a network operator, we perform tasks on live (low-voltage) cables. These are cables located in the street where a tap is made, for example, to connect a home to the grid. A tap is made on the innermost part of the cable—the conductors. To do this, the outer jacket, filler material, and inner jacket must be removed. To ensure safety, we use (special) insulated tools and personal protective equipment, because cutting too deeply or incorrectly into a live cable is extremely dangerous. However, determining how deep to cut—or whether to cut at all—is a very delicate matter, as cables vary and, over the years (some have been in the ground for 40 years), they may no longer be perfectly round or the material may have changed. Our employees therefore rely on a keen “feel” when making cuts, but unfortunately, things still go wrong sometimes. We would like to reduce these cutting incidents, and we’re asking our neighbors, suppliers, and manufacturers to help us find a solution! The question is: “Is it possible to automatically strip an LS cable using a robot or some other type of machine to prevent accidents caused by human error?”
